Mission
The Gathering's mission is to create an inclusive, community-rooted annual event that strengthens professional growth, ethical practice, and compassionate, evidence-based midwifery care across Hawaiʻi and the Pacific region. We are committed to supporting midwives and perinatal health professionals in their development, fostering a connected and empowered workforce, and advancing midwifery as a public health solution.
Goals
The conference seeks to:
-
Provide free continuing education (CE) credits for Hawaiʻi-based midwives and nurses to support ongoing professional development, provider retainment and sustainability in the state.
-
Promote midwifery as a key solution for improving maternal and infant health in Hawaiʻi, highlighting the profession’s role in culturally responsive, community-centered care.
-
Reduce barriers to participation as much as possible, including travel, lodging, and food costs, particularly for rural and neighbor island providers.
-
Foster collaboration and connection among midwives and other perinatal health professionals, building a strong, supportive network across the state.
-
Encourage knowledge-sharing and professional growth, including best practices, mentorship, and discussion of challenges unique to Hawaiʻi’s healthcare landscape.
Outcomes
In 2025, the Hawaiʻi Midwifery Gathering convened 60 maternal healthcare professionals in Maui, Hawaiʻi, and provided free ACNM-CE credits for local providers. The conference fostered collaboration among partners including HEALING Midwifery Together, PRAMS, EMS personnel, the American Association of Birth Centers, the Hawaii Department of Health, AlohaCare, and Hawaiian cultural leaders. Participants engaged in networking, professional development, and knowledge-sharing, discussing best practices for home-to-hospital transfers with Smooth Transitions and contributing to data collection efforts for HEALING’s ongoing programs. The event strengthened professional connections, encouraged interdisciplinary dialogue, and supported the growth of community-informed midwifery practice across the region.
